Our Club
Keymer Folk Dance Club was formed in 1950 and is a popular social club in the village.
We welcomes visitors and regular club members are very welcome to invite their friends to a club night.
The club meets at URC Church Hall (the hall is behind the church), 23 Keymer Road, Hassocks, BN6 8AB on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays of the month. We do not meet on Bank Holiday Mondays.
We start at 7.30pm, break for refreshments half-way through and finish at 9.30pm. Remember, your first visit is free!
We enjoy a range of folk and country dances from the English and American traditions. Those who have been to barn dances or ceilidhs will be familiar with the style and will know how much fun can be had. Unlike ballroom dancing you do not have to come with a partner, members are very happy to be a partner. This type of dance is popular because of the social element – you’re always dancing with different people, not just your partner. We welcome many people who come on their own and they soon find new friends.

OUR CALLERS
The Caller is the person who leads and teaches the dances. They guide participants through the steps and formations of the dance, typically by providing verbal instructions before the music starts and during the dance itself. They are usually people with plenty of dancing experience. The caller’s role also includes creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere and selecting appropriate dances for the dancers
Our club callers walk us through the dance slowly and make sure we all know what to do. Then we dance it to the music. Sometimes we are lucky enough to have a live band for our club nights
